Girls Varsity Tennis · Questions With Tennis Player Lauren Rowe

We had a chance to meet up with tennis players Lauren Rowe. Let’s see how she’s doing.

Ed Jarvis: What are you doing to get ready for the season?

Lauren Rowe: I am currently doing a lot of conditioning at home like running, lifting weights, and core exercises. Until we were ordered to stay home, I would go to the tennis courts and hit with one other person. Now since we are having to stay home, I’ve been hitting in the street in front of my house with my siblings to stay on top of my strokes.

EJ-What’s your favorite tennis memory?

LR:My favorite tennis memory is when our team won a close semistate match against Avon my freshman year to advance to state.

EJ-What’s your goal for the season?

LR-The goal for this season is to make it to state. It’s going to be a challenge, but our team has been working really hard and I know we can do it if we keep up our work ethic. The goal is also to just enjoy it. We have been and will continue to work hard, but we want to make sure that we’re having fun doing it.

EJ-What’s it like to have your mom as your coach?

LR-It’s definitely different having my mom as the coach, but I enjoy it. We get along well both on and off the court so that helps a lot. Plus, she’s really supportive of everyone on the team and pushes us to work hard.

EJ: What are you looking forward to with college?

LR: I’m really excited to play on the college team. The coach and the team are all really nice so it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m also excited to meet new people and make new friends both on the team and in my classes.

EJ:Why did you chose USI?

LR: I chose USI because I loved the campus. It was really beautiful, and the academics are what I am looking for. The team and coach are all super nice and I think I’ll fit in well with them. It was all around just a good fit for me.

EJ: What are your favorite classes?

LR:I like pretty much any science class the most. Right now I’m taking AP Environmental Science and I find it really interesting.

EJ:Whats your biggest win you’ve had?

LR:I beat Leila Antony in the USTA Midwest Qualifier this February 6-0, 6-3. She goes to Carmel and won the individual state doubles tourney with her partner last year.

EJ:How does hitting with the boys team help your game?

LR: Hitting with the boy’s team helps me tremendously. They hit a solid ball with more pace which helps me react and move faster when I’m playing other girls. Everything is just faster and they play more aggressive too, which helps me to work on my offensive game because being aggressive like them is the only way I’m going to beat them.

EJ: What do you want to do for your career?

LR: I am currently undecided on what I would like to do as a career, but I have thought a lot about occupational or physical therapy, or nursing. I would also like to teach a little bit of tennis on the side no matter what my occupation may be.
