Columbus North wins 2018-19 Conference Indiana boys’ and girls’ all-sports titles

Columbus North has won the Conference Indiana all-sports standings in boys’ sports and girls’ sports for 2018-19.

       The Bull Dogs totaled 59 points to capture the boys’ all-sports trophy for the sixth time in the 22 seasons of league action but for the first time since 2014-15. CN was a conference champion in football, swimming, baseball and unified track en route to the crown. Columbus North also placed second in tennis and basketball in the six-school league.
       Bloomington South was runner-up in the boys’ standings with 58 points. The Panthers claimed championships in cross country, basketball and wrestling, and they were runners-up in soccer, golf and track & field.
       Other boys’ sport champions were Bloomington North in golf and track & field, Southport in soccer and Terre Haute South in tennis.
       Bloomington North was third in the boys’ standings with 41 points followed by Terre Haute South with 32.5 points, Southport with 31.5 points and Terre Haute North with 30 points.
       Columbus North doubled its pleasure by claiming the girls’ all-sports hardware with 64 points. The Bull Dogs were league champions in golf, gymnastics, softball and unified track. CN also placed second in soccer, basketball, swimming and tennis while claiming its 15th girls’ all-sports crown in 22 years.
       Bloomington South, with 50 points, also was runner-up in the girls’ standings. The Panthers were champions in volleyball, basketball and swimming. They were runners-up in cross country and track & field.
       Other conference champions in girls’ sports were Bloomington North in cross country and track & field, Terre Haute North in soccer and Terre Haute South in tennis.
       Bloomington North was third in the girls’ all-sports standings with 41.5 points followed by Terre Haute South with 36.5 points, Terre Haute North with 33 points and Southport with 21 points.
        A compilation of year-by-year CI all-sports standings is below (note, the league had 10 members including Decatur Central and Martinsville from 1997-98 through 2005-06; it had eight full members from 2006-07 through 2012-13; Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South were partial members in 2013-14 and became full members in 2014-15; the league had eight schools through 2017-18; 2018-19 is its first year with just six schools).
       With a fewer number of schools in the conference, a new 8-6-4-3-2-1 scoring system was used for the first time in 2018-19. Also, unified track was counted in the all-sports scoring (half points for boys, half points for girls) for the first time in 2018-19.
